Apr 29    Marklund Run, Walk & Roll 5K and 1-Mile Event
Runners, walkers, and wheelchair riders:  Mark your calendars for Sunday, April 29, for the first annual Run, Walk & Roll 5K and 1-Mile event, at the Marklund Philip Center.

The racing wheelchair race will begin at 7:55 a.m., and the 5K and 1 Mile race will start at 8 a.m., at 164 S. Prairie Ave., in Bloomingdale.

5K participants will run, walk or compete using racing wheelchairs on a USATF Certified Course, which winds through the Westlake neighborhood. The 1-mile walk shares a portion of the 5K course and is open to individuals and families, as well as those with strollers, walkers or wheelchairs. Therapy dogs are welcome; however, other pets are not allowed.

Marklund will give participants the chance to enjoy fun perks, including an event shirt, live music and lots of delicious food at the “Party in the Park” post event.

The 5K Run, Walk & Roll has taken place at the Marklund Hyde Center in Geneva over the past five years, raising $255,000 for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Net proceeds raised from entry fees and runners’ fundraising efforts will help make everyday life possible for individuals with profound disabilities through the care and services provided at Marklund.

Those who raise $100 or more will be entered in the grand prize raffle.  All fundraisers who raise $250 or more will be guaranteed a prize.

“We are looking forward to our first Run, Walk & Roll event in Bloomingdale, and would like to invite members of the community to get involved,” said Stephanie Heinz, manager of community events. “In addition to running and walking, we have other opportunities to participate, including volunteering and coming out to cheer on runners.”

Online registration opens in January 2018. To register, and for more details, visit:  www.marklund.org/5K.

Marklund is a nonprofit organization that serves infants, children, teens and adults with serious and profound developmental disabilities and special healthcare needs. With three residential locations--Marklund at Mill Creek in Geneva, the Marklund Philip Center in Bloomingdale, and the Marklund Wasmond Center in Elgin--it is currently home to nearly 174 clients.
