Runners, walkers, and wheelchair riders: Mark your calendars for Sunday, April 28, 2019, for the second annual Run, Walk & Roll 5K and 1-Mile event, at the Marklund Philip Center. Net proceeds raised from entry fees and runners’ fundraising efforts will help make everyday life possible for individuals with profound disabilities through the care and services provided at Marklund.
The racing wheelchair race will begin at 7:55 a.m., and the 5K and 1 Mile race will start at 8 a.m., at 164 S. Prairie Ave., in Bloomingdale.
5K participants will run, walk or compete using racing wheelchairs on a USATF Certified Course, which winds through the Westlake neighborhood. The 1-mile walk shares a portion of the 5K course and is open to individuals and families, as well as those with strollers, walkers or wheelchairs. Therapy dogs are welcome; however, other pets are not allowed.
Marklund will give participants the chance to enjoy fun perks, including an event shirt, live music and lots of delicious food at the “Party in the Park” post event.
The 5K Run, Walk & Roll has taken place at the Marklund Hyde Center in Geneva over the past six years, raising more than $300,000 for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Those who raise $100 or more will be entered in the grand prize raffle. All fundraisers who raise $250 or more will be guaranteed a prize.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be putting on our second annual Run, Walk & Roll event in Bloomingdale,” said Natalie Sarby, community events manager. “This is a great opportunity to get involved in the community, whether you decide to run, walk, or be a volunteer. Let’s all come together to make a difference in the lives of individuals with profound disabilities!”
Online registration opens in January 2019. To register, and for more details, visit: www.marklund.org/5K.
